What is an API?
API is an abbreviation for Application Programming Interface. API’s allow different software programs communicate and leverage on individual strengths. By having an API available for automotive inventory developers can create unique software and applications without having to build a full vehicle management solution. Examples: Mobile Themes, iPhone Applications, Facebook Applications, etc.
How many sites can I have with one DealerTrend API license?
You can have inventory from one rooftop and up to three websites or micro-sites. Additional licenses are available beyond the first three at $50 per month, per site.
Why do I have to pay for the DealerTrend API if want just one application like mobile?
Dynamic inventory management is handled by the DealerTrend Vehicle Management System and is software that has taken several years to develop and requires continued maintenance and work to be competitive. Any of the applications that are built using the API still require the same amount of work from the DealerTrend crew to make them work.
This plugin requires a subscription to the DealerTrend Vehicle Management System (VMS).
System Requirements:
PHP 5.3 or better. Although 5.3 has been available for quite some time there are several hosting companies that don’t set up their hosting with this as a default. All you need to do is request that your hosting company upgrades your server to run PHP 5.3 or better.
The DealerTrend API plugin is offered under GPL. The DealerTrend Vehicle Management System is required to operate the plugin and is a commercial service.
